Independence Day, also known as the Fourth of July, commemorates America’s independence from Great Britain, as the Declaration of Independence was enacted on July 4, 1776.
The Declaration of Independence paved the way to freedom for the 13 original colonies, making it America’s most cherished document, next to the U.S. Constitution.
Since then, the Fourth of July has become a national holiday, and Americans all across the country celebrate with parades, cookouts and fireworks.
