The defending AA State Champion Bayou Academy Lady Colts opened their fast pitch softball season in impressive fashion with a 7-1 win over the Manchester Academy Lady Mavericks Tuesday afternoon in Yazoo City.

Bayou scored a run in the first, three runs in the second, a run in the fourth and two runs in the sixth.

Kamryn Otts and Madison Jenkins were impressive in the circle for Bayou as the duo combined on a two-hitter over seven innings. The duo also threw 20 first pitch strikes to 25 batters.

Otts earned the win as she struck out six and gave up just one hit and one walks in five shutout innings of work. Jenkins closed the game out by giving up an unearned run on one hit with three strikeouts in two innings of work.

The Lady Colts’ offense roped 11 hits to support Otts and Jenkins.

Kaylin Loftin led Bayou at the plate with three hits and a RBI, followed by Adyson Starnes and Otts with two hits each.

Bayou will be back in action on Saturday when the team hosts its annual fast pitch softball tournament at Bear Pen Park.
