The Cleveland-Bolivar Chamber of Commerce is preparing for a master planning exercise and a survey has been created to best determine people's perceptions of downtown Cleveland.

Arnett Muldrow and Associates, an urban planning, economic development, and historic preservation firm based in Greenville, S.C., put the survey together

"The results go directly to Arnett Muldrow and Associates and they will use them to help determine people’s perceptions of our community…. What we do well, what we should do better, etc.," said Lisa Cooley, director of Team Cleveland/Main Street for the chamber.

"Another interesting thing that Arnett Muldrow and Associates will do is to determine any areas of leakage for our economy. We want to keep our local dollars local and these types of surveys will help us determine the best way to do so,” she said.

Cooley said she has e-mailed the survey to all chamber members and many others and asks those who receive the survey to share it to obtain as many opinions as possible.

Cooley said there are other options for those without a computer.

"The library has computers that people can use. Also, if someone wants to call the chamber, we can login to the survey and take their answers," she said.

The survey includes questions about parking downtown and what businesses residents would like to see in Bolivar County.

"It’s important to get the voice of Bolivar County when making master plans because this plan is something that will affect all of us. Also, when people play a part in helping to make plans, they tend to ‘buy in.’ We want everyone to get behind and contribute to the future of Cleveland," said Cooley.
